The Lower Dolpa trek offers a real adventure in this remote, rugged and pristine corner of western Nepal. The area is one of the last bastions the ages-old, traditional pre-Buddhist Tibetan culture, where the Bon-Po religion is still practiced. High mountains, including the Dhaulagiri massif to the southeast, surround this spiritual sanctuary.Lower Dolpa trek is a truly isolated corner of Nepal where time has stood still for centuries as the inhabitants of Tibetan descent continue to live, cultivate and trade the way they have done for hundreds of years.
Lower Dolpa trek is generally within altitudes ranging between 2500m to 5,190m. After exploring the Kathmandu Valley historical/cultural sights and obtaining a special permit for the lower Dolpo trek one flies to Jhupal via Nepalganj. Lower dolpo trek begins with a hike to the Shey Phoksundo National Park by way of ancient trade routes. Along the way wonderful views of the lower Dolpo valley and the snowy peaks of the Kanjiroba and Dhaulagiri ranges can be had. The trek continues to the crystal clear, deep blue waters of the Shey Phoksundo Lake that contrast strikingly with the weathered red and brown hills. The final leg of the trip to this locale of wonder, serenity and mystique involves the descent to Jhupal airstrip.
