The last section of journey begins in Ghamghari, a small village located in the western region of Nepal. Ghamghari serves as a gateway to the Great Himalaya Trail and marks the starting point of this particular section. As you set off on the trail, you'll be surrounded by lush green forests, terraced fields, and picturesque valleys.
As you ascend further, the terrain becomes more challenging. The trail takes you through dense forests, ascending steep ridges and crossing several suspension bridges over roaring rivers. You'll pass through beautiful alpine meadows, where yaks graze peacefully, adding a touch of serenity to the surroundings.
The trail then leads you towards the border with Tibet, reaching the village of Hilsa. Hilsa is a small settlement located on the banks of the Karnali River, which serves as an important trade route between Nepal and Tibet. This village provides a glimpse into the unique blend of Nepalese and Tibetan cultures, as you can witness the influence of both regions in the local traditions and architecture.
It's worth mentioning that this section of the GHT trek from Ghamghari to Hilsa is a remote and challenging route, suitable for experienced trekkers who are well-prepared and physically fit. Due to its remote nature, proper planning, including obtaining necessary permits and arranging logistics, is essential.
Trekking the GHT from Ghamghari to Hilsa is a once-in-a-lifetime adventure that allows you to immerse yourself in the raw beauty of the Himalayas and experience the rich cultural diversity of the region.
